SOLO - Our comparing statements

Room 14 have been busy this term looking at creating comparing statements. We have been using flags from the countries at the Rugby World cup and the uniforms from some of the teams.

When we write a comparing statement we need to use words such as: like, same, similar, almost the same, in comparison and both. After we have used one of these words we need to use a joining word such as: because, during, after, which and is. By using these joining words and adding them to our statements we are able to move towards becoming relational thinkers by explaining our statements.

We have been working as a whole class and in buddies and are currently beginning to develop our independence when creating our own statements.

The clip below are our examples of comparison statements using the South African and Australian rugby jerseys - Lauren, Cherkia and Cassady are leading the class. Check it out ...

Stu Duval - Writing workshop

Baileigh Nicholas and Olivia Bernacchi

On Wednesday we both went to see Stu Duval. Stu taught us how to do some doodles like an "S" person and a"X" cat.
He told us how to make a title name first you draw 3 boxes drawn together. Secondly put colours in the first box like Aqua or violet until you fill it up.
Next do the same thing but with random animals. Now write in the last box things you see. Choose your 1 favourite from each box and link them together and you got your title. Stu's title was "The hot pink pig poster". We created a story to go with it [It was so funny]. He drew a cat in a bikini we laughed for a minute.
We learnt alot Stu . THANK YOU STU DUVAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

The POLICE come to visit

The wind was like a hairdryer only it blew cold and chilly. The noise was almost deafening as the Iriquois helicopter flew above our heads. It hovered over the school field before 5 armed police officers were deployed. They dropped a black rope from the helicopter and dropped onto the school field.

The police officers performed some routine maneuvers to rehearse for the Rugby World Cup.
Danny Love our photographer, shot these snaps from the courts - "it was awesome"

We had such an exciting time out on the court watching the helicopter land and the police officers complete their drills.

Gymnastics

For the past couple f weeks, Room 14 along with all the other students at UHPS have been attending gymnastic lessons. We have been learning a range of skills from ball control, ribbon skills and batons to rolling, jumping and Hula Hooping.

Check out these clips below and see what we got up to...

Room 14 would like to say a HUGE thank you for Margaret for all her hard work and effort. Margaret must have some super ears because we sure made an awful lot of noise in the hall.

RWC Writing Reports

This morning we research some information about New Zealand. New Zealand is going to be our first RWC country report.
First used a highlighter to locate main information that we wanted to use in our report.
We then placed our information on a graphic organiser - sharing information with everyone in our group.
After drawing our Hamburger in out books we planned our report and decided where our 2 pictures will go.
After self editing, making changes, checking in the dictionary, referring to the picture in our writing and organising our ideas into paragraphs - we made our report as factual and as informative as we could.

I wonder what country we are going to report on next!

Hamburger ... What does a Hamburger have to do with writing?

Lets see what Cherkia and Bella have to say.

ARNAY AT THE GAME - Go Black

On Friday last week I went to watch the Rugby World Cup. I watched the New Zealand v Japan game. It was cool when the wave came. One of the All Blacks stepped on a Japan player and it was a foul but New Zealand still won by miles. As I mentioned before the wave is when everyone gets up until the next gap - the Mexican Wave. The game was
all the way at Hamilton in Waikato stadium.

Have a look at one of my pictures that my dad took - what a great pic.

Tom at the Game - Come on Black
Thursday 21st September - South Africa vs Namibia

When the mexican wave came around I heard a running noise coming from under me. I jumped up and waved my hands in the air - that was fun I felt happy to be at the game.
I was supporting Namibia even though they lost (Miss Bullen was too). I got a hand banger which I held up when tries were scored. Mum, dad and my brother Sam cam with me - it was exciting and my mum even took a picture of two BLUE MEN dressed as Namibia supporters.

Check out the photos of Tom at the game - what an awesome shot!
